worship

When we worship, we are in conversation with the Spirit and with each other.

worship at st. james

St. James United Church is a modest, open-minded, engaging congregation with a history of excellence in music, faith formation, spiritual care, wellness, and justice.

Our weekly Bible Study group often discusses the readings several days before the service. The questions, stories, hopes, and fears usually inform the message that our minister shares. In this way, we collaborate as a community in the formation of our worship service.

Mindful of the Christian calendar that includes Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, Pentecost, Ordinary Time, and the Season of Creation, our worship team plans services together so that there is a flow in message and music.

frequently asked questions

What time is worship?

We begin in-person worship at 10:30 am. It is live streamed on YouTube, so it can be watched at anytime. Of course, it is nice to be in community, so please join us at 10:30 am. If you are little late, still come! We will welcome you!

How much does it cost?

There is absolutely no fee! It is free to attend, though we encourage everyone to donate what they can with a cheerful heart. In other words, what you give should not cause you any financial distress.

What should I wear?

Come as you are, my friends. Some attendees like to dress up because it is the only chance they get to wear their fancy clothes. Other attendees will wear jeans and shirt. No one cares. What's in your heart is what really matters.

I'm not perfect, I don't know if I even believe in God. Is that ok?

Yes. We are all imperfect. Come anyway. Come with your questions and opinions. You are loved and you belong. We will welcome you regardless.

My partner is from another faith (e.g., Hindu or Muslim), can they come too?

Yes. There is only one God. The United Church of Canada is in interfaith dialogue with all Christian denominations as well as with our Hindu, Muslim, and Buddhist family members. If you want to be with us, we will welcome you.

Wow... you seem to welcome everyone? Where do you draw the line?

It is not about us. It's about God, the Source of Love. We draw the line where love ends.
