Only Time Will Tell (continued)
While Sarah and her friend slowly moved the earth around the hole, the other prairie dogs were gathering food and playing in the sun. Sarah had to pause every so often, because moving the dirt had become very hard work. Once, when she paused, she looked up to see what time it was. The sun had moved three quarters of the way across the sky, just above the forest at the foot of the mountain. In the distance, floating above trees, she saw a black speck that seemed to be coming toward her. It was moving rapidly, and none of the other prairie dogs noticed it. As the spot moved closer, she realized what it was—it was an eagle!
Sarah had to warn the other prairie dogs, "Yip! Yip! ... Yip! Yip!" she barked. All the prairie dogs ran to their burrows, and Sarah jumped into the tunnel she had just finished. Everyone was safe.
After the eagle had left, everyone went to see Sarah, to thank her for saving their lives. "It was a good thing that you had to work slowly, so that you could notice the eagle." they all cried.
"Yes,” said Sarah “time will always tell."
