Only Time Will Tell.
Sarah the prairie dog’s den, her home, was slowly filling up with water. Curious neighbours from all around had come to see what had happened. Thankfully, Sarah had already moved her children to her sister’s home. After seeing the devastation, the prairie dogs around her whispered amongst themselves: "Poor Sarah, such a lovely den, now ruined."
Tanya, who lived next door to Sarah, gave Sarah a hug. "What happened?" she asked.
"Well, last night I noticed a damp spot in the ceiling." replied Sarah, "Then water began to drip from the damp spot, and now water is trickling down. Everything is wet, and a pool is forming in the bottom of my den."
"Why that's really unfortunate, I expect that you will have to abandon this den, there is nothing you can do with it." Tanya answered.
"Yes, it looks bad, but we’ll see. Only time will tell." said Sarah.
The next day, Sarah went back to the den to survey the damage. There was a hole where the damp spot used to be. When Sarah look up into the hole, she could see light coming in from the other end. The hole went all the way to the surface. Sarah decided to turn the hole into a tunnel wide enough for a her to use as another entrance to the den. While Sarah was preparing the hole, another prairie dog came by.
"What are you doing, Sarah?" she asked.
"Well, there was a hole where that damp spot was yesterday, and it turns out that it leads right up to the ground, so I am making another entrance to my den." Sarah replied.
