The Adventure of Cassandra Caterpillar (continued)
After what seemed like a very long time had passed, her shell was starting to crack again, but she felt very different. As she crawled out of the shell, she stretched out, like she had done many times before, but this time she discovered she had wings like the birds she had seen. She felt the wind lift her yellow and black striped wings. With a couple of flits, she was in the air. She had changed! And she was hungry, but not for leaves, she wanted something different and she discovered the nectar found in flowers, it was soothing and sweet.
Cassandra was very excited, she had to tell everyone about her discovery. She flitted over to where Francis lay resting in the mud by the marsh. “Francis!” she called out. “Over here, Francis.” she called out again as she lighted on a nearby blade of grass.
Francis looked very closely at the butterfly that had landed near him. “Cassandra? Is that you?” inquired the frog.
“Yes, it is me.” she replied. “You were right, I am a change animal. Once I was a green caterpillar who ate leaves and never left my tree. Now I am a yellow and black striped butterfly, and I can go anywhere that I want. Thank you for your advice, my friend.”
After talking a while, Cassandra left dancing and floating in the warm summer breeze.
