Bosco the Bear
Bosco the brown bear was very good friends with the bees who had a hive along the path to his cave. They used to spend long summer afternoons talking together. Sometimes Russell Robin would drop by and sing them a lovely song. The bees enjoyed Bosco’s visits and would often give him some honey to take home. One day another brown bear was passing Bosco’s cave, while Bosco was enjoying some honey. “Mmm. That looks good.” The bear said to Bosco, licking his lips. “Where did you get that honey?” he asked.
Bosco told him about his friends the bees.
“Do you thing you could get me some honey from your friends?” The bear asked. “I have a bail of straw that I could give you, if you give me some honey.”
Bosco thought about it. His bed was rather hard and a bail of straw would make it nice and soft. “Sure!” He said, “Come back tomorrow evening with the straw and I will give you some honey.” The next day, at the end of his visit with the bees, Bosco asked them if they could give him a little more honey. The bees were happy to give their friend anything he asked.
In the evening, the other bear returned with the bail of straw and another bear, this one had a bag of goose feathers that he had collected. “Bosco, do you think that you could get me some honey, too? I have this bag of goose feathers, it will make your bed nice and warm. Bosco thought about his bed, and agreed, “Come back tomorrow, and I will give you some honey.”
