Kaya's Wonderful World (continued)

So the hare and her children snuggled together in the small hollow. After they had fallen asleep, Kaya took a spot under the small tree. “This will do, it provides some shelter, and I feel very warm inside, in spite of the temperature and the wind.”

When Kaya awoke the next morning she was surprised to see that the ground around her was wet with dew, but she was quite dry. As she looked about her, she found that the leaves of the tree had been brought together to form a shelter around her.

“Good Morning!” said a voice from above her head. Kaya looked up to see a small spider dangling from a silk thread.

“Good Morning” replied Kaya “My name is Kaya, I’m from the western meadow.”

“Good Morning, Kaya,” continued the spider, “My name is Sasha. I live here in this small tree. I hope you don’t mind, but I was listening to you and the young mother hare talking last night, and I saw that you give up the hollow for her and her children. When you fell asleep under the tree, I worried that you would catch a cold, so I spun a special web for you, mixed with some leaves from this tree to shelter you from the dew and the wind.”

“That’s very kind of you, thank you.” said Kaya.

“No thank you,” Sasha replied, “Your kindness to the young squirrels and the mother hare inspired me. Now I’m sure you are hungry. I have spoken to my friends the ants and shared your story with them, they have a surprise for you.”   next page
