Kaya's Wonderful World (continued)
Kaya had gone quite far into the grassland and it was beginning to get dark, not too far from where she was standing she saw a small tree coming out of what appeared to be a hollow in the ground. As she got closer, she noticed that there were some bushes there as well, “I will head over to those bushes.” she thought, “perhaps there will be some shelter there.”
Sure enough, the tree and the bushes formed a small sheltered thicket, in which there was just enough room for a small quail like Kaya. Just as Kaya was settling down, she heard some rustling outside the thicket, she went out to take a look. There was a young mother hare with her children. The temperature was dropping and the wind was picking up. “Oh, sorry,” said the mother hare, “I didn’t know this was your homr. The foxes have been after us all day, and I cannot go back to my old hollow, for fear that they will find my children and me. We’ll go find another place for the night.”
“Nonsense.” Replied Kaya, “I only just found this hollow. I am on a journey of discovery. Here, take the hollow. It will be a bit tight, but you and your children will be safe and warm. I’m only sorry that I have nothing else to offer you. I had a bag of seed that I had collected from the autumn, but I gave that to some lost little squirrels on my way here.”
“You are very kind.” Replied the hare, “But where will you sleep?”
“Don’t worry about me.” answered Kaya, “Now hurry into the hollow before you all get too cold.”
